The ....not so scary consultation at the Medspa!

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

Hello, My name is Kylie Brooks and i am a licensed Medical Aesthetician in Grand Ledge, MI. at AWS.

I have had the privilege of working almost 9 years in a dermatology setting. I am a solo Aesthetician and My goal is to share my knowledge, and experiences of the services i provide to clients and other estheticians.

This blog will be great for clients getting to know or feeling comfortable with medical aesthetics.

I am a firm believer that if you look good you feel good, my goal as an Aesthetician is to help my clients skin be in the best shape possible, you gain more confidence and become a more productive person. If you can wear Less makeup, that means you gain more time doing the things you love doing or if you're getting ready for an event, it have to take as long when your skin is already glowing! You can walk into to that space feeling so great about yourself, you'll walk a little taller! Smile a little bigger!

Today I want to talk about What to Expect in my consultation

I think a consultation to a new potential client in a medical spa can be slightly intimidating. Clients are un sure what to expect or how much corrective treatments will actually cost them.

My goal is to make people feel more comfortable in a medical spa setting. My consultations are not intimidating or scary at all!!

First up entering the spa waiting room, I greet my clients and ask them to fill out a client consultation form, this form goes into great detail of clients concerns, skincare preferences, any facial treatments previously done, allergies, medication, and what products the client is currently using.

I take my clients into the treatment room and we dive in!

I like to take time going over the consultation questions, asking a bit more about what concerns bothers them the most, their goal and more about their home care regimen. I like to also get a feel for my clients lifestyles, are they working? Working from home? Do they have kids? Is their schedule very busy? Do they like having an easy home care regimen or are they willing to take extra steps to having amazing skin.

I like to ask all of these extra questions so I can guide my clients to the best possible treatment to yeild the best results in their budget and comfort level. If they cant be in the treatment room very often, I might recommend more home care products and a stronger treatment that will do more for them so they are in the office less.

If the client likes coming in frequently and does not like a complicated skincare regimen. I can recommend less home care products that are multi functional and more frequent skin care treatments.

There is no one size fits all recommendation!

After I have gone through the entire consultation form, going over any allergies, medications or health issues that can pose a concern or contraindication to the treatments or skin care products. I start my recommendations!

I start my recommendations for treatments based on what I think would serve my clients skin the best! Then, I can recommend alternatives if the client is deterred from a specific treatment. I like to hear their clear goal and then make realistic recommendations and set clear expectation of the treatment. I believe this is very important so that no one is left feeling frustrated or unhappy.

In some cases, I will do a patch test to make sure the skin responds in a positive way and then proceed with that treatment.

After I make my in treatment room recommendations, I pull products customized to the client that will help achieve their goal and help them get there faster! Skincare at home is an important step to clients having great skin and meeting their goals. I am also a person who doesn't like wasting products, so some times I just make recommendations for skincare based on any gaps in the regimen and as clients use up their old products we add in replacements that I recommend. I have clients that want to go all out and start fresh with a brand new regimen and clients who want to slowly add in products. There is no wrong answer, I really like to make recommendations that help get clients get to their goal and in their comfort zone. I am here to help them, not overwhelm, or intimidate them. The consultation is really to serve the client in which ever direction they need!

I am simply here to help you get to your goal!

I will send my clients out after their consultation with a custom treatment plan and customized skin care regimen that I believe will get them to their desired goal! Clients are welcome to schedule or purchase products on the day of their appointment. If they want to , their is no obligation.

-Consultations are not boring, they are not a waste of time or intimidating! I think consultations are an important step when getting started in a new skin care routine!

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me directly!

I hope you enjoyed this blog post on what to expect in a consultation with me!
